Diet myths revealed
The world of diets is full of myths, talks and speculations. We heard of them thousand of times, but are they true? Is it a good idea to expel sugar from your diet? Would it be beneficial for you to never touch fat and alcohol again? It seems link a one-way ticket to failure. There are too few people who are ready to ban certain foods forever and stick to their promise.
The basic idea behind any diet is eating food containing fewer calories than our body needs for maintaining its current weight. So the body is forced to spend the stored fat to replenish the energy it doesn’t get from the food. But the diet should also be tasty and nutritious. Simply banning certain food types is not a solution because anyone who follows such diet will eventually feels need in deficient ingredients that inevitably results in return to old habits.
People should be smart about using such meal replacements like Mypoplex, Slimfast or Eat-Smart. These combinations of high protein and low fat substances are not substitutes for a proper diet. They are not advised to use more than four weeks in a row. Our body cannot get on without calories for too long. Long run cutting of calories is a huge mistake as our intestines need calories for normal functioning. Using meal replacements for a week or two as a shock treatment can be good. But eating them for months means looking for a trouble. The same is true about one product diets like cabbage soup diets, as they are based on the same idea.
Another widespread myth is the idea of low carb and high protein diet as best weight loss approach. This is one of myths emerged from Hollywood slimming industry. Almost all movie stars or singers are on this kind of diets. But, this approach is not too good, because low carb diet forces our body to utilize carbohydrates stored in liver and muscles. At the same time such diet leads to weight loss mainly from water expenses instead of fat, that lead to exhaustion of our inner organs.
There’s no sense in banning such products like potatoes, bread and pasta, that are leading sources of carbohydrates. Actually carbohydrates are useful, because they suppress hunger without bringing many calories. We can easily consume moderate amounts of potatoes or bread, provided that they are not mixed with butter or sauces that are rich in fats. At the same time, high protein and low fat diet is better than complete suspension of potatoes and bread from our meals; besides, it is quite easy to follow.
Drinking certain amount of water daily is also a great idea, as water fills the stomach and keeps the body hydrated. Water is also contributes to making our intestines healthy, by means of driving undigested food through the digestive system. But simple water drinking cannot trigger weight loss. There’s only one way to lose weight, through the burning of body fat, and water cannot do that. Also the diet cannot be judged by how much weight we lose in a week. Some people consider that diet is effective in case weight loss is about 2 pounds a week. Frankly speaking, losing more than 2 pounds a week is quite much weight to lose, so you can be sure that it may be not only fat loss, but also the lean tissue that forms muscles.
Another myth claims that fat is absolutely bad for us. This is not true. Just the opposite, our body needs some fat in order to get essential fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, circulating over cardiovascular system. Moreover, fat also brings to our organism necessary fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6 that cannot be synthesized in our body. We should necessarily include them in our daily ration as they are playing important role to our health. The recommended fat dose is about 35% of daily calories consumption.
And the last and most widespread myth is that a diet or eating plan itself is enough and it doesn’t have to be combined with exercising and taking weight loss pills. Exercising is by far the most effective way to burn excess calories stored as fat. Sitting at the desk the whole day won’t help lose weight regardless which diet we are on. Remember that a diet including various foods (right matched to be healthy), plenty of exercising and natural weight loss pills is much better than sitting at the sofa and drinking cabbage soup every 6 hours. That works a lot faster and is less stressful to our body.
